As I sit here writing my review for Defenseless, I'm struggling to move on. Thinking now what? What will I do with my life? Ha, Ha! Well maybe it isn't that serious, but I feel like it is. It's no secret I'm a fan of Corinne Michael's stories. Each of her stories have touched me in some special way and are unforgettable. Defenseless did not let me down and is now among some of my favorite stories. This is Mark's story and if you've read the books in the Salvation series, then you know Mark very well. Defenseless can be read as a stand alone, but the characters all tie in to the other books in the series.Mark and Charlie's story is beyond good. It's funny and sexy (smoldering at times). But the one thing I loved the most is that the dynamic between these characters are off the charts. Nothing seems forced or rushed. I'm not even referring to just the sexual chemistry, but the way they play off each other and compliment each other so well. It's actually a perfect combination that made this read entertaining, enjoyable and addicting.We have Charlie who is a CIA spy and total bad ass. Mark Dixon is a Navy Seal who is now working with Cole Security. Mark and Charlie both have agendas of their own. Mark is determined to find out why Cole Security, which includes his friends are being targeted. Charlie who has been undercover for a couple years now is on her own mission trying to unravel clues to locate a terrorist. She lives and breathes her job, which is similar to Mark. Neither of them have given any thought to a personal life outside of work.While on a mission to save a friend, Mark encounters Charlie. There is a pull toward her not to mention her tough as nails personality. Mark eventually enlists the help of Charlie in determining who is targeting Cole Security. As they team up to handle some serious work, there is also some flirting and funny banter which sets the stage for some incredible chemistry. Mark wants to pursue things with Charlie, but she's strongly against it. But Mark uses his incredible sense of humor, seductive charm and often times dirty mouth to reel her in. It's not easy though, but slowly Charlie gives herself to Mark which is something she's never done before. The two go toe to toe which leads to some really funny and also passionate times. We've always known Mark as the funny goofy guy, but we really get to see a different side of him in Defenseless.This story truly has it all. The writing is perfect and laid out with such emotion and feeling. You can't help but fall in love with this couple. Even the emotional scenes just has you experiencing it all. It's romantic suspense with plenty of action, humor and incredible chemistry. Oh and the epilogue was so good! Loved it all and my first 5 star of the year. My very first Corinne Michaels book was Beloved. I thought the the chemistry between Jackson and Catherine was smoking hot. Mark aka Twilight with Charlie completely blew them out of the water in typical Mark (or maybe Charlie) fashion!Defenseless was a more faster paced and wittier sparring between the main characters, Mark and Charlie. However, it was filled with a level of angst which had me glued to their story until the very end. Fortunately, as stated at the start of this book, there was no cliffhanger. For all the grief that Twilight dishes to his friends and colleagues, he gets it back in spades with Charlie. If they were a real couple, I can bet their daily life would never be considered ordinary or boring.The beauty of reading Corinne Michaels' books is how quickly she sucks you into the world of her characters. As you read further into her books, you can almost imagine listening to their conversations and being in these locations that she has so vividly painted with her descriptive words. She is one of my favorite authors whose works I recommend to read when other readers are looking for new authors.
